During the three weeks Addie was in her cast I was constantly amazed at how it never really fazed her. She adjusted just like it was an addition to her body. She was frustrated at first because she couldn't figure out how to walk - which she LOVED doing. She quickly started crawling everywhere again -- there is no stopping her. After about a week, she learned how to walk with her cast. The only real challenge was finding pants that I didn't mind getting ruined from being stretched out and warn on the knees and covering her little toes since a shoe was a no go. Also -- that cast weighed a ton!! It added an extra 5 lbs to her, so picking her up and carrying her was so tiring. I totally felt it in my arms and back (even had a mystery bruise on my lower back which I figured out was from her cast hitting me every time I picked her up). Seriously though, she was so resilant and just adjusted, never let it hold her back and just muscled through.
