What a morning

What a way to wake up. This morning Eric went to go get Owen and let me sleep in a little since I worked last night ... however about 10 minutes later Eric walked back into our bedroom asking me "Has Owen's door ever gotten stuck for you before?"

I got out of bed walked to his door tried to turn it and concluded it was indeed stuck closed. Now, our new apartment has very old doors and door knobs so just unscrewing the knob wasn't going to work. And conveniently, the hinges are on the inside of the door in Owen's room. And to top it off I just locked his windows because of the cold front that just moved through so Owen was officially locked into his room. Eric tried many different tactics to get in ... he hip-checked it, tried a screwdriver, W-D 40, wiggling, cursing, pretty much everything that could be done without breaking down the door was done. After an exhausting hour and a very cranky hungry little boy stuck in his crib on the other side of the door I told Eric it was time to wake up our landlord and get permission to call the fire department who may need to break down the door. She agreed to call the fire department and said we should have done it earlier.

So at about 8:45 this morning the belmont firefighters pulled up in their fire engine, grabbed their tool kit and headed inside to save Owen. They started working on the door and one of them asked Eric "So what do you want us to do?" Basically asking for permission to knock the door down. As soon as he said it he leaned on the door just right and it popped open. Owen was a little shocked to see firefighters greet him as the first people to go into his room after a restful nights sleep but was very happy to see mommy and daddy and we were very happy to see him!

 Asking what we should do

The firefighters were so wonderful and after the morning adventure let Owen see their truck up close and personal. Owen was THRILLED and the smile on his face made some of the anxiety from the morning melt away. On a side note we actually have to walk to the fire station everyday and sit across the street to watch the trucks because Owen loves them so much so you can only imagine being able to see a truck up close and personal was a highlight of his life.

Checking out the truck and their gear
I look exhausted but Owen wouldn't go in the truck alone ... he still loved it and we really can't thank the fireman enough

It was quite the morning and now we are off to home depot to buy a new door handle/lock and hopefully off to pick some apples so we can bring some cider donuts to the firemen that saved our Owen.

Having breakfast after a very eventful morning ... clearly not impressed with me taking pictures of him
