Lexi Update

Monday was Lexi's surgery. My mom actually drove up the night before so that both Eric and I could drop her off at the vet in the morning and little Owen could stay at home. She was such a big help with our little man and we can't thank her enough!

Lexi was at the vet until about 7:15 Monday night. When we picked her up she came out to see us and was one very sad puppy. She had clear gel on her eyes, couldn't put any weight on her leg, had been shaved in four different places and was slipping on the vet floor -- tile is the devil for doggies. We were given her instructions on how to take care of her, paid her bill and loaded her into the car. She was definitely not herself, but we were happy that we were taking her home where she could relax and start to get better.

When we got home she was a puddle of fur and the saddest puppy we have ever seen. She was dazed and out of it from all of the pain medication she was on. She wouldn't eat anything or drink anything and could only get around with the help of Eric (who still has to carry her up and down the stairs and lift her up when she wants to get on the couch). We knew we were going to have a long night ahead of us, but didn't really know what to expect especially with a fussy newborn and very little sleep ...

Let's just say the following 24-48 hours were the hardest Eric and I have ever experienced. Between Lexi being in pain, not wanting to be left alone, refusing to eat or drink and Owen just causing his own newborn troubles it is really amazing we all survived. I don't really remember much of the past two days, but it looks like things are slowly getting a little bit better. Lexi has decided she will tolerate some food and water and has even moved around the room a little more. We still have a long road ahead of us but are thankful for all of your warm thoughts and well wishes for our little fur baby.
