As you all know by now, our little man arrived on December 22nd at 12:43 pm weighing in at 8.5 oz and was 21 inches long. He decided to start his decent into the the world on December 21st (yes his due date) around 10 pm. Earlier in the day we had been trying our very best to see if this little guy was ready and did a lot of walking around the mall and after dinner after we had pretty much surrendered for the day and came to the conclusion that we would be waiting a little bit longer before we got to meet him. Boy were we wrong. Things started slowly (contractions were about 10 minutes apart for about 2 hours) and painful at home until about 3:50 am when we finally got the contractions down to about 3-4 minutes apart and our doctor finally gave us the green light to go to the hospital. That's when Eric started walking around in circles, not too sure what to do but did manage to pull it together so we said our goodbyes to a very confused little Lexi and headed to the hospital which was only 10 minutes away (thank goodness). Once we arrived at the hospital, we were checked in, given a room and I was able to get an epidural right away. And when that kicked in, everything got 10000000x better! For all those mom's that deliver naturally I give you major props, because I don't think I would have survived without the magical spine juice. From there things progressed slowly, but we were okay with that. Eric was able to have some breakfast, I feasted on ice chips and we got in a couple of naps, watched tv and passed the time until about 11:45 when it was time to start the eviction process. I pushed for about an hour and little Owen James Hunter arrived crying a little blue and nice and big! We had some bonding time and then the nursery nurse came in, weighed him, gave him all of his tests -- he got a 9 out of 9 and gave him his first bath with the help of new Daddy Eric.

Little Man
It was truly an unbelievable day and we are so in love with our new little man! We were able to leave the hospital on Christmas Eve which was nice but a little (or a lot) scary. And since the hospital was so efficient making sure we got out of the hospital before our 48 hours were up, we were able to have a home nurse visit covered by our insurance on Christmas Day which was really nice because Owen was a little jaundice and it was nice to be able to make sure that we were doing alright with him.
Are you sure they should be able to take me home?
Ready to go
Who is this?

Still not sure what to think
So tired
The first night was rough to say the least. I don't think any of us slept for more than a total of an hour including Lexi, but we are slowing getting into some type of routine. We are all so in love with our newest addition and are so blessed he is healthy! We certainly got the best Christmas gift this year and our so lucky!
P.S. We postponed Lexi's surgery until next Monday - January 3rd because everything was happening so close together so we thought it would be best to wait a week. We will let you all know how it goes... things are going to get a lot harder in the Hunter house...
WOW - great story, MOM!! Owen is ADORABLE and your photos are excellent. Glad everyone is doing well (in spite of not getting much sleep!) Please keep posting photos - I LOVE seeing the little man!!! Take care. XO
ReplyDeleteI loved reading that story. You really captured what those first days are like. Looks like you are doing great. Congratulations, Owen is absolutely adorable.
