Rx: Couch Potato
Our little Lexi has been battling an issue with her back left leg for about the past month or so. See, she would be perfectly fine then go to the park and run like a maniac with all of her friends chasing after her ball -- one of her favorite things to do -- and when we got home and rested for a little bit she would get up and refuse to put any weight on her back left leg. It breaks your heart when you see her limping around and the only thing that seemed to make it better was rest. We would check her leg and she never cried or tried to pull it away from us to indicate she was in pain so we had no idea what was the problem was. The next day her leg would always be a little tight in the morning, but after she started to walk around for a little bit she would be back to her hyper little self. However, after she would exercise again, we would be back to the drawing board and she would be back to limping. We did a little research online and one thing that always came up matching her symptoms was a torn CCL (which is the same as an ACL in humans) which requires surgery, is extremely expensive and is a tough recovery -- about 6 months of rehab and what not ...
So on Wednesday, Eric took Lexi to a new vet to see what was wrong with her hoping for anything other than a torn CCL. The doctor did a full work-up and thinks that it might just be a sprain or strain and gave us some anti-inflammatory drugs and strict directions that she must be a couch potato for the next two weeks meaning no daycare, playing at the park, long walks or rough housing. So far she is doing alright with this regiment, but she is not happy about it, but we will take it over a torn CCL. We are hoping that this treatment plan will work and she will be back at the park with her friends in a few weeks because we really don't want to have to do surgery. We are not out of the woods yet, but hoping for the best! Poor little Lexi Lu!!
