The Most Magical Time of the Year

Christmas this year had to be my favorite in many many years. Why you might ask? Because for the first time I got to experience the pure joy, enthusiasm and magic through the eyes of my 4 year old little Owen and it was awesome. This year Owen was so excited for Christmas and Santa and everything to do with the "most wonderful time of the year." He constantly told me we didn't have enough decorations around our house, got so excited to see the gifts for friends and family building under the tree, couldn't wait to decorate Christmas cookies for Santa, loved decorating the Christmas tree, couldn't wait to see what Santa was going to put in everyones stockings including Lexi's and even got excited to pick out a gift for his little sister Sunshine (aka Addie). It's really hard to describe in words the pure magic and excitement Christmas time is through the eyes of a 3 (4) year old but let me tell you if you can experience it, it is awesome. I wish I could bottle up his innocence and keep it forever and ever. The excitement that came rolling off him in waves made all of the shopping, extra tasks and even traveling all ok because he was so happy and excited it brought me back to being a kid -- worry and carefree just waiting for the magical night Santa came.

Christmas Eve finally arrived and Owen was so excited, Christmas was finally almost here. In preparation we made sugar cookies from scratch and improvised a little using our playdoh cutters for the dough since I hadn't realized we didn't actually have some until Christmas Eve -- oops. We let them cool, ran a few last minute errands (had to get carrots for Rudolph and the other reindeer) and came home to decorate them while Addie napped. Owen did a fantastic job and had a blast doing them! After the cookies we snuggled on the couch and watched a little of the polar express. When it was time to get ready for bed, Owen grabbed our special Santa key, hung it on the door to make sure he could get in, picked out some special cookies for the big guy dressed in red, added some carrots to the plate for his reindeer, helped me pour Santa's milk and it was off to dreamland.

Overnight Santa must have snuck in and filled the kids stockings to their brims, made gifts flow out from under the tree and only left a few bites of his cookies left. Owen tiptoed out of his room to find presents under the tree and was so surprised and excited it was awesome. He and Addie got right to work unwrapping their presents. Owen constantly said "I LOVE THIS" "IT'S JUST WHAT I WANTED" and after he finished he turned to me and said "I love Santa! Mom, can we send Santa a thank you note?" Does it get any better than that? I love that little guy and I am so lucky to get to experience all of these little moments. I can't wait to do it all again next year.
