It seems like the theme of the week has been fighting unexpected Battles but one sticks out most in my mind. So on Sunday we were enjoying a lazy day watching tv and trying to stay out of the bitter cold temperatures when all of the sudden our cable went out and we had no internet connection. I thought it was very weird especially since the sky's were sunny and the wind was calm. I looked out the window to investigate and saw a Comcast (one of two cable companies that service MA - the other one being Verizon) truck outside our neighbors house and saw a man working on something outside their house. I got Eric and asked him to go and find out if the man accidentally did something to our cable connection. After a little persuading Eric went outside only to be followed by our guard dog Lexi barking up a storm without a collar or leash on. I quickly grabbed my jacket, the leash which had the collar connected to it, and ran outside. As I was approaching Lexi I heard the man explaining to Eric that we do not have an account with Comcast and he had shut off our connection. WHAT?!?!?!? ... ok so I wish I could say that I stayed cool, calm and collective, but that all went out the window as soon as I heard that come out of the man's mouth as I already feel that we pay an arm and a leg for just cable and internet with very poor customer service anytime we have a problem with our equipment or bills. Sooooo I immediately walked right up to the man and said that he was mistaken (ok I might have been a little more direct than that) and I have been a Comcast customer for almost 5 years now, 2 1/2 years at this apartment, always pay well BEFORE the bill is due in full and he had NO right to turn off our service especially since we were home and all he had to do was knock on our door to ask us if we could verify that we are a PAYING customers. I then stomped back up to our apartment to grab this months bill to show him. When I came back down, I showed him the bill which he could careless about and asked me what my phone number was. I stared with 413 ... he said 617 ... I said NOOO 413 ... he proceeded to say 617 ... when Eric chimed in and said it's 413 it's a CELL PHONE number. Anyways he said he would look into it so we went inside. At this point I am furious and grab Lex to go to the park as Eric tries to call Comcast about this whole mess. As I am going to the park the guy says in a smart ass way "Your phone number isn't on file either but we found your address so I am turning your service back on." I think he was expecting something appreciative to come out of my mouth as my dog is pulling my arm off but instead I replied with "Thank you but my husband is on the phone with Comcast right now" and stormed off.
When we got back from the park Eric was still on hold because after I left the man walked into our apartment looking for Eric to talk to him. Yup --- didn't even knock, just walked right in. Eric almost called the police, which I would have because that was way uncalled for. Anyways once he got a hold of a customer service rep at Comcast they said that he read the "list" wrong and shouldn't have turned our cable off but couldn't do anything more for us. THANK YOU COMCAST AND YOUR MONOPOLY THAT YOU RUN IN MA AND GIVING US NO LEVERAGE TO NEGOTIATE ANYTHING FROM YOUR MISTAKE. Chalk that to Comcast 1 Hunter Family 0...
So that was a full little battle to take on on a Sunday afternoon. I am just thankful that we were home and didn't come home to no tv or internet because it would have taken Comcast a good week to come back out and fix their mistake.
Funny, We have been fighting with comcast all day today due to mistakenly shut off service as well. I feel your frustration. They are maddening and like you said they have quite the monopoly leaving us no choice but to deal with their crappy cust service. Your story brought a smile to my face today. Thanks!
