Houston - Day 5

And away we go:

On the way to the hospital this morning, I got a call from Jim asking for shorts and a T-shirt. Escape crossed my mind as I asked the shuttle driver to take me back to the Suite to collect these items. Upon arriving to room 1106 I found Jimmy bouncing around the room informing me he had already taken 4 laps around the room.

He attended the Patient Information class at 11:00 and came back with all the information he needs to be successful at home during the next 6 weeks. He is okay with not driving for 6 weeks and will have attend cardiac rehab in Springfield. The nurses and his physical therapist are amazed at how fast he has healed and are calling him "The Poster Child" for open heart surgery. Jim's nurse, Bobby, explained the difference of off-pump and on-pump heart surgery to us today. St Luke's in one of only a few hospitals in the country to perform off-pump surgery and it does make an incredible difference in recovery.

Dr. Jain, Jimmy's cardiologist decided today that we could fly home as soon as next Wednesday. You should have seen that smile :)

The challenge for the next 2 days will be to keep him from sprinting around the halls. Thank God there is nothing with wheels hanging out on the floor...he would definitely have trouble resisting riding it.

Y'all have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you all in Massachusetts real soon.

xoxo Deb
