Guy Smiley

In 2000, while I was in high school, Kellogg's ran their Sesame Street Mini Beans (which were a series of twenty-four small -- usually less than 4" -- bean-filled plush toys) promotion in six of their cereals. I thought that they were so cute and having been a Sesame Street Kid growing up and a beanie baby fanatic -- this was just up my ally of things to collect! You could collect Betty Lou, Zoe, Elmo, Mumford, Bert, Ernie, Twiddle Bug, Rubber Duckie, Oscar The Grouch, Honker, Baby Bear, Baby Natasha, Grover, Benny Rabbit, Sherlock Hemlock, The Count, Big Bird, Guy Smiley, Mr. Snuffleupagus, Barkley Telly Monster, Cookie Monster, Rosita and Herry Monster.

Well, I got a box of Frosted Flakes and you know who I got? GUY SMILEY. I remember taking him out of the box full of excitement only to realize, I had no idea who this was and couldn't believe out of all of the characters, I got Guy Smiley. So what did I do? I gave him to my Dad of course because I thought he would like to have him.

A few days after I had given him to my Dad I was at school sitting in class, went to grab a pen out of my backpack and what would you know, Guy was smiling back at me. So a few days later I hid Guy in my Dad's pillow case, he found him and he magically appeared in my tap shoe ...

Since 2000, my Dad and I have hid Guy for each other in all of our favorite spots. He has been on motorcycles, in tool boxes, graduated from Endicott College (ya, he is pretty smart too!), and he is an expert flayer having traveled to Colorado, California and most recently Houston Texas.

Here is a picture of guy hanging out with my Dad in Houston for the week

I can't wait to see where he ends up next!

  1. It has been great fun to watch as Guy Smiley surprises you and your father. He's holding up surprisingly well for such a frequent traveler.

Perhaps Eric should hook him up with some insurance :)

    XOXO Mom
